Description

This 1950s structured wool riding coat was made by British ready to wear designer Leslie Raymond. It was retailed in the famous Harrogate department store, Cresta, a regional branch of Marshall and Snelgrove of London. The V&A has a very similar documented coat from this designer which retailed in another high-end department store of the day - Dickins and Jones.

Tailored from smooth, inky black wool, it has a gentle V-neckline, finished with a black wool and black cotton velvet collar. The 3/4 length silhouette nips in at the waist and flares out dramatically at the skirt - a traditional riding coat shape that allows for the person to sit on horseback. There are eight ridged plastic black buttons running the length of the front. Two flap pockets side at an angle atop the hips. The coat is lined with black satin for a comfortable wear.

The coat is in truly excellent vintage condition and impeccably well made with no issues. It looks barely worn. Due to its age, there are no composition or size labels so please check the below measurements as the fabric has no stretch. We believe it would best fit sizes UK 6-8, US 2-4.
