1970s Indian Silk Blue and Gold Brocade Dress with Trim
Description
This magnificent 1970s coat dress was likely bespoke made and came from the wardrobe of a titled socialite along with some other fabulous couture garments. It is crafted from the finest Indian woven silk brocade, patterned with elephants, peacocks, tigers and antelope. It is cut to an A-line silhouette to skim the body and falls to around ankle length. The dress is trimmed with a stunning gold and turquoise braid around the neckline and down the front. It has a high Nehru collar that gives way to a V-neckline and, below this, is secured stunning fabric-covered buttons which fasten through fabric loops. The sleeves are cut to a three-quarter length and finished with the gold and turquoise braid and detailed with a decorative slit at the elbow. The dress is unlined and likely would have been worn over a pair of trousers or a silk slip dress.
In excellent vintage condition with absolutely no issues; the silk is in superb. The dress coat is unlabeled so please check our measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We believe it would best fit a size UK 8-10 or US 4-6 and smaller.
