Description

This true vintage Mexican embroidered ensemble was designed in the 1970s by an unknown designer and may have been made for the burgeoning export market at that time to the United States and Europe. It is composed of two pieces - an elaborately crafted, crochet-trimmed wrap-top and an a-line skirt. The skirt is high-waisted and tailored to an ankle-grazing maxi length from intricately woven off-white crochet. It is broken up by panels of cotton, hand embroidered with flowers in rainbow hues. It fastens at the back with two hidden hook-and-eye clasps and a hidden tonal white zip. The top is tailored from the same panels of crochet and embroidered cotton. It has long sleeves with buttons cuffs that each fasten with two pearlescent buttons. The front is composed of two long panels which tie at the front in a relaxed, wrap style. Both the skirt and top are unlined, resulting in a skin-flashing, peekaboo finish.

This ensemble is one of the finest of its type we have ever had at Circa and in fantastic vintage condition with no faults - it appears unworn. It is labelled a size 10, but please check our measurements below as this bares no resemblance to modern USA sizing. We believe that this would best fit sizes UK 6-8-10 or US 2-4-6 with a small waist.
