Description

This sensational 1940s navy patriotic dress is incredibly rare and in absolutely impeccable vintage condition to the point that it is the best we have ever seen or are likely to see again. This piece will have been made around 1945-47 and the label, Minx Modes, was an American manufacturer in Missouri - R. Lowenbaum- that specifically made quality ladies sports dresses during this era. Patriotic dresses were popularised during the wartime era and intended for women greeting their loved ones on their return from service as a show of solidarity and celebration, showcasing the colours of the national flag, in this instance red, white and blue. This lovely piece is a navy rayon/cotton mix fashioned into an immaculately tailored hourglass silhouette and features red, pink and white checkered silk chiffon and ribbon trim. There is a plunging V neckline, long sleeves, fitted bodice and ankle length pencil skirt with a detachable half belt on the reverse with neat popper fastenings. The ribbon work is woven into the bodice following the line of the neck and consolidates in a large chiffon bow at the centre bust. This is echoed beautifully by a matching chiffon sash sewn into a faux pocket detail on the left hip, which falls elegantly over the length of the skirt. There is a concealed zip fastening at the centre reverse. This extraordinary dress seems as vibrant now as when it was made and is miraculously without fade or visible signs of wear with a contemporary, highly feline aesthetic. A museum worthy piece for the discerning collector. Would fit up to US size 8 UK 12.
