Description

This beautiful 1950s calf length dress by celebrated American couturier Mainboucher, who famously designed Wallis Simpson's wedding dress and trousseau for her marriage to the Duke of Windsor in 1937, and whose designs are extolled for "exclusivity, good breeding, and rarefied taste". All this is evident in this lovely piece. The opulent pale pink silk is printed with a floral design in pale green and lilac with raised velvet patterns placed intermittently throughout. The dress is neatly nipped at the waist and features a cross over bodice with a classic full 50s style skirt finishing at the ankle. Fully lined in ivory silk, it fastens at the side with a concealed zip and has an additional small zip at the back of the neck to secure the fit. This piece would be a perfect choice for summer parties.

This unusual couture made piece is in good vintage condition. Please note, there is a bit of wear to the fabric at each shoulder and a small repair has been made on the left shoulder seam. Due to its age, this dress is unlabelled but we believe it would best suit a US 4-6, UK size 8-10.
