1990s Thierry Mugler Navy Wool Coat Dress with Belt
Description
This early 1990s Thierry Mugler jacket is in rare dead stock vintage condition with the original garment tags attached. It is A-line tailored in a classic navy blue in a 50% wool / rayon blend. Military inspired silver buttons are present at the collar, along the hidden button placket and on the solo Mugler style pocket on the left of the jacket. The flared bottom section of the jacket has two durable pockets that have not been used. Mugler adds a hint of the contemporary by adding his signature asymmetrical collar to the design. It is lined in a luxuriously soft satin fabric in navy while a silver utility clip belt clenches the wearer at the waist. Although this look was designed to be worn as an overcoat, it would work very well as a dress. Tagged size 44, this will fit a range of sizes up to a UK 12 or US 8.
Thierry Mugler was one of the high fashion worlds most avant garde designers, occupying the space between fashion and myth. Beyoncé, David Bowie, Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian have all called upon him for his unique approach to couture. His ready-to-wear pieces were just as spectacular in workmanship and, of course, with prices to match. His secondary line was known as 'Active' and was replaced with 'Mugler' in 1993/1994. While prices were lower than his mainline collections, pieces were still made to a very high quality in Italy until 1993. The signature Mugler look was retained with trademark asymmetrical cuts, heavily padded shoulders, tiny waists and skinny trousers but in a way which looked more casual and comfortable to wear.
