Vintage Silk Square / Carré with Chariot Motif

This exceptionally fine vintage carré in printed silk twill  is of unknown vintage and make,  verified by the owner to have been made on commission by Hermès for the French transport company Pignat-Hayet.  It is unsigned but the silk is of beautiful quality and the hems are delicately hand stitched, it has one of their small older care tags.

It has an ivory ground and detailed design of chariot races, in shades of gold, with a maroon border.  Company initials intertwined in gold in the centre and corners.
