1920s Pale Brown Leaf Print Silk Blouse with Tie-Neck
Description
A superb 1920s silk blouse with a pretty lunaria leaf print in soft caramel tones over an abstract cream background. It is tailored to a loose fit with a panelled construction. The shawl collar is trimmed with caramel silk and fastens at the front of the neck with a snap closure, hidden behind a bow formed of caramel silk. The sleeves have a slight blouson cut with puff-sleeves and gathered cuffs. There is topstitched knife-pleating on the shoulders. The shirt is unlined and therefore has a slightly sheer finish.
A rare surviving example from the era with an early novelty print; it is wonderfully versatile and could effortlessly be dressed up or down. In very good to excellent antique condition, particularly for a piece of nearly 100 years of age. There is a tiny pull on the back (less than 2mm wide) which is barely noticeable. No labels remain in the dress and most society women would have had clothes made to order. We believe it would best fit up to a size UK 10-12 or US 6-8 and of course smaller sizes as it has a loose fit style.
