Description

This striking and unusual 1930s lame gown is crafted from thick silk woven with a psychedelic pattern of black, pale-aqua, chartreuse and tangerine - bold hues that haven’t lost their vivacity. Atop these eye-catching colours, intricate abstract patterns of florals, vines and geometric shapes are woven from gold lamé thread that glistens as it catches the light. The detail on this fabric is astounding and the slightly slouchy, relaxed-fit body and bias-cut create a timeless, body-skimming ’30s silhouette. The back and neckline are cut to a flattering, soft V-shape and the long skirt falls to the floor. We particularly love the elongated sleeves with elegant V-shape cuffs that fall over the hands. Although unlabelled, this is almost certainly a couture dress, due to the quality of the fabric and construction and has a number of strategically positioned weights sewn into the seams. We also think it can be worn both ways depending on chosen look.

This outstanding dress is 90 years old and is in truly excellent vintage condition with no issues to note. Due to its age, it has no size or composition label so please check our measurements below. The fabric does not have any stretch to it. Our model is a UK 6-8, US 2-4 and 5ft 4in (163cm) and this dress was a good fit on her with plenty of room to spare - we estimate up to a size UK 10 or US 6.
