1950s Grey and White Cotton Box Pleat Dress
Description
This late 1950s dress showcases many of the era’s fashionable hallmarks. We love the faux double-breasted front with chunky white plastic buttons and the boat neckline. The nipped-in waist and pleated full-skirt create the classic, highly feminine silhouette that was beloved in the 1950s. This dress is tailored from a dark grey and white cotton printed with jagged-edged squares that reads as a gingham pattern from a distance. The wide collar is double-layered and topped with contrasting white textured cotton, adding a nautical feel; it wraps around the neckline to form a Peter Pan style collar at the back of the dress. The skirt is lined with a super-soft, crinkled cotton flock cloth to add volume. The dress is fastened at the rear with a zip and hook-and-eye clasp. In superb vintage condition with no issues; very crisp and fresh and a well-made piece, probably British, despite no label present. Our model is a UK 8-10 or US 4-6 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this dress was a good fit on her.
