1970s Courreges Royal Blue Cotton Maxi Skirt and Cropped Jacket
Description
André Courrèges’s namesake brand is having a moment. In 1961, after ten years honing his craft under Cristóbal Balenciaga, Courrèges launched his own fashion house. Today, the House is being revived under the creative direction of Nicholas di Felice and pieces from the early years, designed by Courrèges himself, become more and more sought-after.
This two-piece maxi length ensemble is tailored from cotton and composed of a high-waist, A-line skirt and a short jacket with a drawstring at the waist, the jacket can be manipulated to create Courrèges’s signature cocooning silhouette. The skirt has a wide waistband and is secured at the front with an asymmetric snap closure. These glossy blue plastic snap closures continue down the front of the skirt and give way to a slit. The skirt is fully lined in matte blue cotton. The jacket is unlined and tailored to a slightly cropped length that allows the detail of the skirt to be seen underneath. It has a rounded collar and fabric-covered snap closures down the front. The patriotic hued 'French blue' cotton has a slight sheen to it and adds a utilitarian feel that recalls classic French workwear. The original labels inside the skirt and jacket both read “Courrèges Paris Made in France”.
This elegant ensemble is in truly excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note - the packet of spare snap closures is still attached at the collar. It is composed of 100% Cotton. The label in the skirt reads “a” and in the jacket reads “O” which reference the brand’s own in-house sizing system, not a standard size in today’s measurements, so please check our measurements below. The fabric does not have any stretch. We estimate this ensemble will fit sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
