Description

This 1970s dress is by celebrated British designer Jeff Banks, as part of his successful 1960s and 1970s boutique brand Clobber. It is tailored from a good quality cotton printed with gingham in red and white against navy. Cut to a short-sleeve, open-collar style, it fastens with chunky plastic buttons in peach down the front. It has a nipped-in waist and flared skirt.

This dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. There are side threaded belt loops but the belt is no longer with the dress. The size on the label states that this is a UK 14, but please double-check the measurements below as vintage sizes tend to run small and this is better suited in modern sizing for up to a UK 12 or US 8.

Jeff Banks was a pivotal member of the swinging 60s London fashion scene when he cofounded 'Clobber' in Blackheath Village, London, in 1964. The boutique carried both his own designs and the work of other designers and attracted celebrities such as Terence Stamp and Jean Shrimpton, Twiggy and some of the Beatles. It proved such a success that in 1969, he launched his own fashion label, opening the first standalone Jeff Banks shop, as well as retail outlets in twenty-two department stores including Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
