Description
A documented and very fine embellished Azzaro evening dress from the early 1970s. It features the House's signature embellished bodice with a V neck and empire waistline, constructed of a fine gold metallic yarn and gold metal chain detail, sewn in a repeating loop pattern.

A-lined with a central seamed panel, the back of the dress fastens with a concealed central zip and five hooks and eyes, giving a streamlined and flattering fit, and is cut slightly lower at the back than at the front. The inside of the crepe is lined with a silky feel red fabric whilst the gold element is unlined. Skin might show through so this can be solved with modern undergarments or a pastie or even dare to bare!

This dress is almost identical to the Azzaro gown worn by iconic French model Jane Birkin in a photoshoot for the brand in 1972, shown here in a black version. The designer's simple and elegant lines came to epitomise the high end occasion wear of the era and were worn by Marisa Berenson, Brigitte Bardot and Romy Schneider among others. It is in superb vintage condition with no observable stains or flaws and looks unworn. A best fit for sizes UK 6-10 or US 4-6 with some stretch in the yarn material.
