Description

This documented 1970s Christian Dior dress was retailed in Debenham & Freebody which at this point was a luxury London department store. They held exclusive licences with the best French and Italian fashion houses including a partnership with Valentino to sell his new ready to wear lines. The original label reads “Diorling by Christian Dior - London” and is numbered. The provenance of this dress is proven in photographs of the Diorling Spring Collection 1973, where ‘70s model Joanna Love wore it under a short tailored jacket. We also attach a editorial shot from the April issue of Vogue 1973.

Crafted from a thicker pale yellow-cream wool flannel, this fun dress is patterned with geometric, Art Deco-esque forms in black, yellow and green and detailed with bright yellow wool trim at the collar, shoulders and along the drop-waistband. The pleated skirt adds a playful feel to the t-shirt-dress silhouette. A concealed zip secures the back and it is fully lined in cream satin. This dress is in excellent archival vintage condition with no issues of any note. We estimate a best fit for up to sizes UK 10-12 or US 6-8 and smaller. Circa Vintage also has the documented skirt suit which will be available for purchase soon. Our model (5ft 11in / 180 cm) is a UK 8-10 and this dress was roomy on her.

Notes on Designer (Courtesy of the VAM, London):

The Diorling label was launched at the Christian Dior London boutique on Conduit Street in March 1968. Designed by Dior London head designer Jorn Langberg, the collection consisted of ready-to-wear garments aimed at a young clientele.
