Description

Fabulous silk asymmetric jacket by Emanuel Ungaro, circa 1986, in a colourful abstract floral print. This was a signature look of the designer and was revisited throughout the collections of the mid 1980s to early 1990s in a dazzling array of floral print designs each season. London's Design Museum holds the dress version in their archives.

The jacket has a high ruched neck, complete with three shiny black facet cut glass buttons. It fastens to the front with the same looped buttons in a cross-over mandarin style with a concealed tie belt around the waist. It is gathered with another three button closure at the left hip whilst hanging lower across the right hip in the signature asymmetrical design. The shoulders are heavily padded, as was typical of the era and the sleeves gradually narrow along the length of the arm to the cuffs, which feature rows of five buttons along the outer side of each forearm and a zip closure. The fabric is truly spectacular – a soft jacquard silk with Asiatic floral patterns of blue, teal, purple, indigo and white against a deep pink background. This really is a statement piece, perfect with tailored trousers or a skirt and heels for a more formal look.

In superb, barely worn vintage condition - no faults noted. The sizing label has been cut but the measurements suggest a best fit for up to a UK 8 or US 4. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in / 163 cm, this shirt fit her well.
