1987 Alaia Green Fleck Tweed Riding Suit

This is a beautifully tailored riding suit from Alaïa’s renowned 1987 collection which featured very similar designs to this suit modelled as separates on the runway. The jacket is precision tailored from a beautiful green-flecked wool tweed and features a short front that cuts away at the waist and a longer tail in the back. It takes its cues from traditional dressage tailcoats - a style which evolved from the Victorian frock coat - cut to be practical for horseback riding. The jacket features small notched lapels, the right side detailed with a buttonhole. The front closes with three chunky, textured faux mother-of-pearl buttons. It has two flap pockets at the hip and a welt pocket at the bust. The jacket is lined with a light brown hued silk-satin throughout, as are the pockets. It has two interior pockets. The back of the jacket can be unbuttoned - as though cut for sitting on horseback. The skirt is cut to a mini-skirt length with a high-waist. It fastens with a hidden tonal zip at the back, alongside a faux mother-of-pearl button on a tab. The skirt is also lined with light brown silk-satin.

Made in France, this suit is in excellent vintage condition with no issues. It is 100% Wool and labelled a French size 38 but this runs small and is more like a US 2 or UK 6-8 in modern sizing. The fabric has no stretch. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 33" (84cm), Waist: 26" (66cm), Hips: 34" (86cm), Height: 5' 7" (170cm) and she's a size UK 6, US 2.
