1988 Runway Chanel Cream Silk Pleated Dress with Belt
Description
This elegant Chanel cream silk dress featured in the editorial campaign and walked the runway for the brand's spring/summer 1988 collection. Bringing the brand’s tailoring sophistication to a timeless shirt-dress silhouette, this piece is cut with a flattering nipped-in waist and generous pleated skirt. Pleating also falls from the shoulders down to the waistband on the top half which closes with three hook-and-eye closures. The front of the dress fastens with polished gold-tone buttons which are embossed with the words “Coco Chanel” and a silhouette of the label’s famous founder. The top and skirt are both fully lined in silk, the skirt with a tonal silk woven with the brand’s instantly recognisable double-C insignia.
The dress is accompanied by a removable cream silk belt finished with three large gold chain buckles - two spherical and one central square design. Marked on the rear with the Chanel stamp of authenticity, this belt style featured heavily throughout the runway show. We've attached further looks which were paired with other dresses in the collection with the belt the other way around.
Both the dress and the belt are in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note - the perfect addition to a Chanel collector’s archive. It is rare to find the dress and belt together and we presume that it may have been a separate purchase given that both the runway and the editorial looks were styled with other belts. There is no size label so please refer closely to the measurements below; we suggest a best fit for up to a UK 8 or US 4.
