Description

1992 was a defining year for the Versace brand. Gianni Versace sent the most famous women in the world, the original supermodels, down the runway dressed in his brash, colourful and unforgettable designs, launching a new era of infamy for his namesake brand. Many of the most recognisable Versace icons were launched in that collection and can be seen in the design of this shirt; pastel silks, baroque detailing and shell motifs.

This rare shirt, which we would consider unisex, was shown on the runway for the spring / summer mens collection and was Look 9. The silk twill fabric is printed with the words “Atelier Versace” and the original, metallic-threaded label reads “Gianni Versace Couture''. The design for the oversized button that secures the collar of the shirt and deatchable cufflinks features a gold Medusa head set in pale green enamel, edged in the geometric Greek key pattern; both signatures of the brand, known the world over. The remainder of the shirt's buttons are plain and sit behind a concealed placket.

This highly collectable piece is presented in good vintage condition overall; it was clearly a worn and cherished peice with the following issues to note. Silk is still fresh looking save for slight yellow markings on the reverse of the shirt, the left shoulder area having fainter markings than the right and a few snags on the rear of the shoulder. There are minor small single line pulls in a few locations. None of these issues would not be noticed when the garment is being worn. We estimate this a best fit for men's size medium and women's size large. Our model is a UK size 8-10 and 5ft 11 in / 180 cm, this was oversized on her
