Description
This is a beautiful quality 1950s or early 1960s French couture dress and sleeveless jacket combination entirely made by hand. It features a striking turquoise and white polka dot and O ring pattern interspersed with horizontal fine bands. The sleeveless jacket is made up entirely of this O ring pattern. The dress has fine construction details like the piped edges to the arm cinches and scoop neckline. There is a great deal of hand finishing and the cotton is really superb quality. This is a shift style dress that falls below the knee with tie straps on the shoulders and to the rear it fastens with a French couture zip. The little overcoat has side slits and there are no fastenings.

Of particular note is the variable sizing and its possible that this was used as a maternity ensemble. It will fit a variety of sizes from UK 8-14, US 2-10 as the dress can be pulled in with the waist ties which are stylish in their own right and great for more active days or to change the look of the dress as desired. These could also be removed easily without altering the dress.
Overall in very good vintage condition with only gentle signs of wear noted and no faults.
