2000 Christian Dior Waterfall Denim Coat
Description
This incredibly detailed Christian Dior denim coat was created as part of the Spring 2000 collection. Designed by John Galliano during his lauded tenure as Creative Director, Vogue wrote “John Galliano’s romp started with a series of wildly sexy denim looks” later concluding, “it doesn’t get much closer to the fantasy of couture than this - and nobody makes it more fun than Galliano.” Tailored from rich indigo denim, it is detailed with orange stitching like classic denim jeans. Cut to a waterfall style at the front, it is worn open at the front. The drapery is detailed with a denim strap and gold-tone metal buckle at the top of the neck. The sleeves are long and have a panelled construction. They are finished with a denim strap and gold-tone metal buckle which are threaded through denim belt loops. At the side of the waist, the denim is stitched in a check formation, as though panels of corsetry are cinching the generously draped silhouette. It is tailored to have an asymmetric hemline which falls like the tails of a morning suit around to the back. The back is also detailed with a hidden gold-tone metal zip, hidden under an elaborately stitched denim flap. The top half of the jacket and the sleeves are lined in navy silk satin.
This jacket is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It is labelled a UK 12 or US 8. It is 97% Cotton, 3% Lycra and the lining is 100% Silk. The fabric has no stretch. True to size in our opinion and can be styled for different looks on various sizes.
