1960s Jean Varon Jersey Black Maxi Dress with Front Button Detail
Description
During the 1960s and beyond, English fashion designer John Bates designed visionary modernist dresses under the name Jean Varon. He chose the name Jean Varon in order to appear to be French and also because it meant he was the only designer under the letter 'V' in the rag trade book.
This futuristic looking late 1960s to early 1970s black maxi-dress, with its floor-sweeping and minimalist design, is a highly chic choice for any evening event. Tailored from lancola, an imitation silk made from nylon, this smooth slinky cloth forms an A-line silhouette that skims the curves of the body. The dress is cut with an elegant high-neck and long, slim sleeves. It is detailed with high-shine black buttons and chunky fabric loops from the top of the high neck to the centre of the waist. The cuffs are also detailed with buttons and fabric loops. A concealed zip and hook-and-eye clasp fastens at the back. The dress is unlined.
The dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Made in England, it is tagged a vintage UK 10 or US 6 but please check our measurements below as it may also suit sizes smaller. The fabric has no stretch.
