1984 Runway Yves Saint Laurent Purple and Green Printed Chiffon Dress
Description
This incredible, documented dress walked the runway as part of Yves Saint Laurent’s much sought-after 1984 collection. The fabric is a real head-turner; swathes of rich purple sheer chiffon are cut-through with painterly strokes forming abstract patterns in lime green, deep lilac and white. The cloth is ruched and envelopes the body, cinched by a sash across the body and crowned by a gorgeous frothy bow at the hip. The silhouette is elegant and demonstrates the designer’s ability to flatter the feminine form. It is strapless with a gathered bodice and a swirling, softly pleated skirt. The label reads “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche”, a reference to Paris’s younger and trendier left bank. This dress is unlined and fastens under the arm with a hidden tonal zip.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. It has no composition label. Made in France, it is labelled a French 38, a UK 10, but vintage sizes vary hugely so please check our measurements below carefully. The fabric has no stretch.
