1960s Iridescent Sequin and Beaded Cardigan
Description
This rich cream wool cardigan was designed in the 1960s and is hand-decorated with eye-catching, iridescent sequins all-over. Along the collar, cuffs and bottom hem, a rainbow assortment of jagged leaves are formed from sequins in lime green, fuchsia, yellow, pale blue, pink and soft peach, outlined in tiny white spherical beads. The beadwork sits on a pure lambswool cloth and the piece is lined with ivory faux-silk. The edges of this cardigan are trimmed with thick ribbed wood in cream, adding a slight bomber jacket feel to the aesthetic. Hidden hook-and-eye clasps secure the front. We believe this piece to have likely been hand-embellished in Hong Kong, an area renowned for its craftsmanship during this era.
This exquisite cardigan is in very good to excellent vintage condition with no issues of any note - we've sewn a few sequins back on and fixed some tiny holes which are now virtually undetectable. The beadwork is particularly pristine for a piece of its age. The composition label states that this is 100% Lambswool. It is labelled a size 40, UK 12 which equates to a US 8; fairly true to size and would suit smaller sizes also. The fabric has about 0.5cm of stretch on the below measurements.
