1970s Couture Silk Jersey Dress and Jacket With Sequin Bodice
Description
This 1970s turquoise silk satin jersey dress and jacket set is unlabelled haute couture having been entirely handmade in France in the early part of the decade. It is reminiscent of work by Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent but we have not been able to attribute the ensemble. It is comprised of an ankle length evening gown with beaded embroidery, satin skirt and matching bolero jacket. The dress is sleeveless with a round neckline, deep scoop window at the reverse and princess seams to shape the bodice, which showcases some exquisite embellishment. Clusters of rocaille beads, sequins and prong-set crystal rhinestones are skilfully embroidered into an intricate floral design in turquoise, silver and azure on a marine blue chiffon overlay. The skirt by contrast is plain turquoise satin gathered in soft pleats below the waistband with concealed pockets on the side seams below each hip. The jacket is in matching satin and fastens at the front with 6 x loop hole fabric covers buttons below a V neckline. The fabric is gathered daintily at the shoulders, cuffs and hem to create a gamine feminine aesthetic and there are beautiful piped seams to trim the front, hem, and cuffs to echo the detail on the hem of the skirt. Both bodice and skirt are lined and there is a concealed zip fastening at the centre reverse of the dress. This striking ensemble is of superb quality and in pristine vintage condition, would best suit a US size 4, UK size 8.
