Description

This elegant late 1950s to early 1960s dress and jacket combination is cut to a classic swing silhouette, with a nipped-in waist, flared, almost 360 circular skirt and playful halter-neck neckline. It is tailored from rich navy-blue lace with tonal navy satin lining. The sweetheart bodice is adorned with tiny white beads around the neckline and halter strap. The full, flared skirt is lined with two tiered layers of navy tulle, to add volume and structure so that it swirls around the wearer as they walk. An inverted, boned waist accentuates the highly feminine cut further. The cropped jacket stops just above the waist and has elbow length sleeves with gathered cuffs. It fastens at the front with a hook-and-eye and popper closures.

Unlabelled but this is a very fine demi-couture piece possibly made for the American market in France. The fabrics used are the best quality and we love the hand finished seaming and detailing; inside the dress is a grosgrain ribbon waist band and hanging loops. This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Please do check the measurements carefully below - we estimate a good fit for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
