Description

This Yves Saint Laurent navy pin-stripe skirt suit walked the runway for the Fall 1999 collection and was designed by the great and late Alber Elbaz. He briefly worked for the House from 1998 to 2000 having replaced the eponymous founder upon his retirement from designing the Rive Gauche collections. Tom Ford was brought in as head designer following the sale of the company to Gucci in 2000.

Cut to a high waist style, the skirt is a pencil cut and finished above the knee. It is lined with navy crepe. It fastens at the side of the waist with a hidden tonal navy zip and a navy button. It has in-seam pockets on the hips. The jacket is single breasted. It has a narrow top lapel and much wider bottom lapel, as was the fashion at the time. It fastens at the front with a large plastic button with a smudgy, organic patina. The sleeves are slim and are split, secured with a coordinating large plastic button. There are three welt pockets on the front of the jacket and it is lined with navy blue crepe.

This highly wearable skirt and jacket are in excellent vintage condition. Made in France, they are labelled a size 34, UK 6 or US 2. The suit should be good for size UK 6-8 or US 2-4 with a small waist. The outer fabric is 100% Wool and the lining is 55% Acetate, 45% Cupro. The fabric has no stretch.
