1950s Yellow Mexican Ensemble with Black Embroidery
Description
This striking two-piece ensemble was crafted in Mexico in the 1950s. The cotton fabric is a vibrant lime-yellow, almost neon, and as luminous as the day it was made. Composed of an off-shoulder top and voluminous below the knee-length skirt, these stunning pieces are accented with black cloth at the hems and delicate black embroidery of vines and stitched stripes. The pretty top draws on a classic folk style with its ruffled neckline, and is secured at the side hem with a hidden zip. The skirt is fastened at the waist with hidden buttons and wrap-around black ties. We have paired with a very full 3-tier black nylon tulle petticoat, resulting in a dramatic, flamboyant silhouette. This is not included for sale but do inquire if you would like this as an optional extra.
Tucked inside the waistband of the skirt, the original ‘50s label reads "Lab-Mex - Made in Mexico"; Unfortunately the composition and size has faded too much to read. In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Best for sizes up to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8. Our model is a UK 8-10 and 5ft 11in (180cm) and this ensemble fit her well.
