Description
A very interesting knitted suit from renowned British designer Mary Farrin in a wonderful combination of mauve and lilac purples and copper and beige tones. Two types of wool acrylic have been used; one a mohair example and the other a silk. The cardigan is an oversized style with drop shoulders featuring an elaborate criss-cross design like a corset. The sleeves are tapered and finish with a ribbed cuff. The buttons which appear on the shoulders to draw in the corset design and fasten the front are dainty clear spheres of good quality plastic designed to look like glass. The doubled layered skirt is gently flared and has an elasticated waist. Several knitting patterns makeup the different areas of the suit and all showcase the talents of the knitter - definitely an above average design. The cardigan and the skirt can be worn separately from each other and are just perfect for cooler days during the summer months or for layering up in the fall/winter - neither is a heavy knit. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no issues and look barely worn.

Mary Farrin was known as the Queen of the knits, even supplying Angora knits to Christian Dior and she opened her first boutique in fashionable South Molton Street, London in the late 60s. Early items were knitted by local women working away on knitting machines in their own homes. With over 40 stockists and exports to the USA, France and Japan, production moved to the Island of Gozo in the early 70s until the label folded in 1990.

Versatile in terms of sizing due to the elasticated waist and the oversized design of the cardigan.
