1984 Documented Laura Ashley White Cotton Wedding Dress
Description
Laura Ashley was the most famous name on the British High Street from the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The textile founded company made some fantastic and fabulous quality clothing taking inspiration from bygone eras. Made in Great Britain, this cotton wedding dress is an example of Laura Ashley’s romantic prairie-inspired style, blending Victorian and Edwardian references with the homespun femininity that defined her aesthetic.
From Laura Ashley's 1984 bridal collection, this vintage wedding dress has a corseted top with a basque waist and is boned the whole way around. The large puff-sleeves end just above the elbow with double-layered frilled cuffs. They can be worn on or off the shoulder. It is trimmed with cotton ruffles around the neckline which travel across the top of the shoulder too. The skirt is full and swirling. It is trimmed with zig-zagging rows of ruffles which are detailed with floppy cotton bows around the skirt. It fastens at the back with a tonal white zip. The dress comes with a white cotton petticoat which is finished with a ruffle-trimmed frilly hem. The petticoat fastens at the waist with a white cotton drawstring tie.
The dress and underskirt are both in excellent condition with no faults to mention. Labelled a UK 12 but vintage sizes vary hugely so please check the measurements below carefully. The waist is very small and this wedding dress will suit modern brides who are a UK size 8 or US 4 and below as the 100% cotton fabric has no stretch.
