Description

Sublime late 1970s to early 1980s Mexican wedding dress from the legendary Mexicana boutique which was located just off the Kings Road in London. Pleated all over, it is made from bright white cotton which has been intricately pin-tucked all over and detailed with stripes of tonal lace. The bodice is compiled from alternating stripes of cotton and ribbon, and has a V-neckline trimmed with lace. It showcases decadent ruffles in crisp cotton at the cuffs, skirt hem and cascading down the skirt. The skirt is decadently finished, smothered in frills and lined with a thick quilted lining. The waistband falls in pleats that soften as they fall, until they reach the bottom hem and deep flounce which is detailed with intricate folds. The playful flared sleeves feature satin-covered buttons.

This decadent gown is in excellent condition with no flaws of any note and is one of the best dresses we have seen of this type in years. Alongside the Mexicana label is the name Georgia Charuhas, an American born artist who has made Mexico her home. She has exhibited at galleries and museums across the U.S., Mexico and Europe and also founded and owned several businesses including a clothing factory that manufactured items based on her designs. The dress will best fit a UK 6 or US 2 on account of the small waist. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in (163 cm) and this fit her well.
