1930s Gold Lame Dress with Cape Sleeves and Matching Belt
Description
This incredible gold lame party dress, circa late 1930s, is undeniably modern for a piece of this era. The soft gold metallic fabric is beautifully tailored in the bodice with batwing style sleeves curving in towards a petit and tidy waistline. The open neckline has a notched blouse collar and falls easily into a deep V above the central button stand. There are 11 x fabric covered buttons which run from the centre bust to the navel and rest above concealed popper fastenings to secure. The line of the skirt flares slightly from the hip and finishes at the knee. There is a belt in matching gold lame which secures at the front with a hook and eye fastening embellished with oversize statement buttons. The sleeves are a notable feature, gathered below a wick that spans the chest broadening the shoulders and styled into a drop shape with a slit window to expose the upper arm. There is a small zip fastening to the left of the waist this is a modern replacement but has been inserted well. The aesthetic is playful yet assertive and is guaranteed to turn heads. This charming piece is designed for a petite figure and would best suit US size 0-2, UK size 4-6. Conditon wise, this dress is very good overall. As with many antique lame pieces, tarnish should be expected; however, this is contained to just the rear neck area and has not changed the gold colour to any notable degree. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5ft 4in. (163cm) and this dress was a snug fit on her.
