1960s Eliane Montigny French Couture Velvet and Silk Dress
Description
1960s Eliane Montigny of Paris black velvet and yellow raw silk cocktail dress. This is a really striking evening dress of extraordinary workmanship and made to the highest haute couture standards. It has an elaborate embroidered arrangement on the seamed bodice and waist line that is is a combination of crewel work in gold thread, sequins, crystal and seed pearl beaded embellishment. Of note, both the bodice and the waistband of the dress are set with clusters and rows of iridescent pyramid shaped pearlescent beads. There are three sizes of these unusual beads, the largest size in a triple row on the chain link design waistband. The dress has a wide scoop neckline, cap sleeves and both the skirt and the bodice are fully lined in the same colour high quality acetate. Fastening to the rear with the original metal zip and hook and eye at the neckline.
In absolutely brilliant vintage condition for something of its age. I have not been able to spot a bead out of place, especially not the the more delicate pyramid beads. As good as it gets for a dress from this era and would have been very costly in its day. Best fit for round a UK 10 possibly 12 or US 6-8. Our model is a UK 8-10 and 5ft 11in (180 cm) and this dress was slightly roomy on her bust but otherwise fit her well.
