1970s Marion Donaldson Liberty Print Red Floral Cotton & Velvet Skirt
Description
This is the most charming floral printed skirt by British designer Marion Donaldson - a timeless wardrobe staple in a flattering silhouette. The main fabric is a vibrant printed cotton with a sweet floral motif that resembles forget-me-not flowers in hues of blue, green, pale pink & black with gold tone leaf motifs connecting them. Marion often used Liberty prints in her designs and this is very likely one of their print designs. The waist band and hem line are comprised of a complimentary burgundy coloured velvet trim - the waistband measures about 2" while the hemline is about 6" deep. The floral section is made up of 3 distinct panels - the first under the waistband is neat with small pleats towards the waist; the second panel has wider pleats which lead down to the final panel with wider pleats again which all combine to give the skirt a lovely loose but flattering shape. There is great weight to the material overall too. The design is beautifully set off with a thin line of gold piping on both the top of the waistband and top of the hemline. The skirt fastens at the back with its original zip and single button. The skirt is fully lined in acetate and bears a Marion Donaldson label which reads a vintage 12; in modern terms this would equate to a UK 8-10, US 4-6. The skirt is in excellent vintage condition with no faults of any note - looks barely worn.
