Description

Original 1970s Ted Lapidus boho shirtwaister dress. A wonderful creation by this revered designer who began his long fashion career at the House of Dior in 1951. This couture labelled 100% silk dress has an outstanding Russian peasant aesthetic with several distinct but complimentary prints. The main print features blue and red liveried cossack riders on horse back hunting with forest animals and interspersed with a floral and cream background. The other prints are a wide floral paisley band against a white background, a dark red floral and zigzag band and a plain navy border.

Construction is complex with lots of design features including a shirt-collar neckline, shoulder epaulettes and popper fastening cuffs. The dress is lace-up and has eyelets instead of a button stand with 2 x tan suede leather ties; these both finish in a decorative leather and painted toggle and were designed to be extra long. We have styled these into a bow in the pictures but they look great left loose. To the front, there is a concealed half zip to the skirt portion of the dress for access. From the elasticated waistband, the skirt gently flares into a pleated arrangement with a centre front kick pleat leading down to the bottom hem. A braided leather belt in navy, red and tan colours completes the look.

This dress is in extraordinary vintage condition with only gentle signs of wear and no faults of any note. Would fit UK size 8 - 10, US 4 - 6 best with a petite waist.
