1950s De Pinna Pink Silk Evening Dress with Matching Capelet
Description
This late 1950s dress is by De Pinna and is crafted from an incredibly vibrant matte fuchsia-pink taffeta silk. Beautifully made for the label’s store on Fifth Avenue, New York, it is lined with silk throughout. A wide, asymmetric V-neckline reveals the collarbones and décolletage with one strap sitting off-shoulder - an unusual detail for this era. The bust is boned down each side creating a form-sculpting corset top above a drop waist which gives way to a low-slung box-pleated skirt. The back is slightly lowered in a soft-V style. The waist is smocked, ruched and gathered at the back of the dress, creating a highly flattering silhouette. The skirt falls to the calf and is lined with pink tonal silk closing at the rear with a hidden zip and single hook-and-eye clasp. The dress comes with a matching capelet, also tailored from fuchsia silk. This is pleated and shaped to wrap around the shoulders and joins at the front with two hidden hook-and-eye clasps under a large stiff silk bow.
The label reads “De Pinna - Town Shop - Fifth Avenue, New York”. It is presented in remarkable vintage condition with no discernible faults. The fabric has no stretch so a best fit in our opinion for a UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
