Description

Oleg Cassini designed this spotlight-stealing dress in the 1990s. Born in Paris to an aristocratic Russian family, Cassini moved to Hollywood at the end of the 1930s and became a costume designer for Paramount Pictures. Over the course of his 60 year career he dressed icons of stage and screen, including Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Renée Zellweger and Taylor Swift, and was appointed Jacqueline Kennedy’s personal couturier.

Crafted from raspberry polyester to a midi-dress style and heavily adorned all over with tonal sequins, this is a dress made for the dance floor. It has long slim sleeves, a rounded neckline and shoulder pads which give it a powerful silhouette. The waist is cinched by a wide ruched waistband. This gives way to a skirt that is styled like a wrap-around skirt with a ruffled front flap. There is a small slit in the back of the skirt. The dress is lined in satin around the neck. It fastens at the back of the neck with a tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp.

This dress is in very good vintage condition with minor wear to some of the sequins and the satin. It is labelled a vintage size US 12, but it runs much smaller and is better suited in modern sizes to a UK 10-12 or US 6-8 with a slimmer hip. The fabric does not have any stretch.
