1999 Thierry Mugler Runway Documented Pale Pink Satin Gown
Description
This muted pink silk dress was the spectacular finale dress in Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1999 collection. Designed by the master of empowering, hyper-feminine tailoring, it sculpts the body in a manner that recalls Grecian draping. The dress is composed of two parts which have been sewn together. There is a corseted top with an angular sweetheart neckline composed of gathered silk. One side of the bust sits higher than the other and forms a petal-like shape. The bust is boned all the way around to hold its shape and to cling to the body. The skirt is pinned to swirl around the body, gathered and pinned in place at the front and falling in a starburst formation. This gown is unlined. It fastens under the left side of the bust with multiple snap closures where the free-flowing fabric meets the structured bust. On the runway, the dress was pinned with a brooch; this is not present on this dress.
Made in France, this archival and well documented dress is in very good vintage condition with only very light wear. On close inspection with the dress in hand, we noted a few pin-prick marks within the folds of the fabric on the front. There is also a very faint area where the fabric has slightly yellowed and this is completely hidden in the folds of the fabric. Neither of these minor issues would even be seen when worn. The fabric composition is 100% Silk and the dress is labelled a French size 38. In modern sizing it is better suited to a UK 8 or US 4 and smaller; please check our measurements below as the dress has no stretch.
