Description
This 1970s maxi skirt is by renowned boutique owner and knitwear designer Diana Leslie who owned Animal Rainbow boutique in London and Countdown in Greenwich Village, New York, during the 1960s through to the early 1980s. Bette Midler was one of her best known clients and she specialised in one of a kind, dramatic pieces that had very limited runs. This skirt certainly represents the very fashionable Victorian revival trend of the late 1960s which ran through until the mid 1970s in both the US and UK.

Made from gorgeously soft charcoal black velvet and although unlined, the material is lovely and thick - perfect for the cooler months. The skirt fastens down the back with the original metal zip and a hook and eye closure at the top. It runs more fitted through the hip and then flares out from around mid thigh, with pleated detail to create that classic fishtail shape. The skirt is in great vintage condition; the only thing to note is some very minor grazing to the fabric on the left hand side seam. However due to the placement and dark colour of the velvet, this is not visible when worn. It would best fit a size 6-8 UK, or 2-4 US.
