Description

This superb late 1980s to early 1990s brooch by Kenneth Jay Lane makes a real statement and was designed to turn heads. In a Maltese cross formation, it features four octagonal forms crafted from gold-tone alloy and molded, bold lucite designed to emulate rough chiseled gems in juicy apple green emerald and vibrant aqua. These gems have been painted at the edges in an organic manner with gold paint. Each one features a decadent, square-cut rhinestone upon each of its three outer sides. Three large oval pearls are suspended from this cross and move as the wearer walks. A long bar clasp secures this piece to clothing, and there is the option of wearing it as a pendant by attaching a chain to the hook at the top. The stamp on the rear reads “Kenneth Lane” with a centred C.

Weighty and extravagant, it would make a spectacular evening piece, perfect for a cocktail party or black tie event. Kenneth Jay Lane, who began designing jewellery in 1963, was famously compared to Coco Chanel on a number of occasions for his popularisation of high quality costume jewellery.

This brooch is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws except for some wear to the gold on the back - not evident when worn. This piece is not scratched or marked. Please check the below measurements as this is a very impressive size.
