Description

This beautiful 1950s calf length dress by celebrated American couturier Mainbocher, who famously designed Wallis Simpson's wedding dress and trousseau for her marriage to the Duke of Windsor in 1937, and who's designs are extolled for "exclusivity, good breeding, and rarefied taste". All this is evident in this lovely piece. The opulent pale pink silk is printed with a floral design in pale green and lilac with raised velvet patterns placed intermittently throughout. The dress is neatly nipped at the waist and features a cross over bodice with a classic full 50s style skirt finishing at the ankle. Fully lined in ivory silk, it fastens at the side with a concealed zip and has an additional small zip at the back of the neck to secure the fit. An unusual couture made piece of exceptional vintage condition with just one small repair to the left shoulder, this piece would be a perfect choice for Summer parties. Would best suit a US 6-8, UK size 10-12.
