Description

Cut from vibrant purple crepe, this exceptional 1960s dress is by Royal British couturiers - Rahvis. Founded as a couture salon, “Rahvis Gowns”, in 1929, it was one of very few female-lead labels at this time. Run by two sisters, Raemonde and Dora, Rahvis was known for its feminine detailing, high production standards and was worn by royalty and rockstars alike. They became prominent costume designers in the British film industry and their work is held by numerous fashion museums worldwide.

The sisters’ eye-for-detail can be seen in the canny tailoring of this dress; the layered bib front wraps around the dress and attaches back at the centre front with concealed poppers and hooks and eyes, complete with bow detailing. The high collared neckline is framed by cut-out, peekaboo detailing. Hook-and-eye clasps secure it at the back of the collar alongside a tonal rear zip. It is fully lined and is in excellent vintage condition - no faults of any note. The dress has probably been shortened at the hem but this is only evident on the underside - no 'tide marks' are present on the crepe. Will best fit sizes up to a UK 10 or US 6. Our model is a UK 6-8 and 5 ft 4in (163cm), this was roomy on her.
