Description

This arresting late 1970s maxi skirt ensemble in contrasting violet and emerald green is labelled by Lydia Martin and is made of the same fabric and design as an Yves Saint Laurent haute couture dress from the same era sold by Kerry Taylor Lot 160, 8th October 2018. Extensive research has drawn a blank on whether this is a licensed copy of Yves Saint Laurent's design for an upmarket boutique but the quality is the same as haute couture. The floor sweeping skirt and matching tie-tassel belt are of silk crepe fabric, and the blouse is a silk chiffon with a playful irregular polka dot design in warm peach, green and ivory on a pale violet background. The blouse is loose fitting and designed to be slipped over the head, then drawn in with the belt if desired. It features bishops sleeves that fasten with a button on each cuff, and a simple tie fastening at the softly gathered scoop neckline. The generous skirt flares out from a fitted waistband and is arranged into sharp concertina pleats, with a central zip fastening at the reverse. The tie scarf consolidates the look beautifully and adds to the opulent bohemian aesthetic. In absolutely impeccable vintage condition, would best suit a US size 4, UK size 8.

We attach a photo from Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Collection S/S 76 for reference.
