1970s Peterson Maid Pink and Purple Organza Maxi Dress
Description
This vivacious, colourful dress was made in the 1970s by Peterson Maid. A floor-length piece, it is tailored to a classic 1970s silhouette with its flattering nipped-in waist and high-neckline. The eye-catching sheer crepe cloth is printed with bright pink and purple abstract florals. The sleeves are unlined and therefore sheer. They are cut in a bell-sleeve silhouette with wide cuffs that fasten with three fabric-covered buttons and fabric loops. The body and skirt are lined with candy pink satin. Typical of these 1970s Peterson Maid dresses, pretty detail is added in the form of magenta velvet ribbon that encircles the waist and adds a flamboyant ruffle at the neck. A strip of this ribbon also falls from the neck to the waist, topped by fabric-covered buttons, which gives the illusion of a button-up shirt front. This dress fastens at the back with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp. The original label reads “Peterson Maid of London” and “Made in England” in navy font on white.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Due to its age, it does not have a size or composition label so please check our measurements carefully. The fabric is a manmade material and has no stretch. We think this is best suited to sizes around a UK 10 or US 6.
