1980s Victor Edelstein Black Silk Cold Shoulder Velvet Ribbonwork Dress
Description
One of Princess Diana’s favourite designers, Victor Edelstein was known as the master of the English thoroughbred look. Created by his namesake brand in London in the 1980s, this chic evening gown is cut from thick inky black silk and lined with silk twill. The boned waist, full skirt and off-shoulder neckline of this chic gown recalls early Dior silhouettes. Edelstein’s skill and attention-to-detail can be seen in the intricate beading and silk velvet ribbon trims. Velvet ribbon twists down the front of the dress, opulently trimmed with light-catching beads and braid, designed to mimic corset lacing. A hidden zip secures the front. Showing off his skill for decadent design, the designer adds a final flourish - a velvet bow dripping with polished black beads. Faultless vintage condition and worthy of the red carpet; a good fit for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6. Our model (5ft 11in / 163cm) is a UK 8-10, this dress fit her well but was slightly tight across the shoulders.
