1980s Yves Saint Laurent Strapless Black Column Dress
Description
This show-stopper of a gown from Yves Saint Laurent dates back to 1987. A truly stunning strapless dress that could easily become your go-to black evening dress, it is in the details that this dress really shines. Adorned with layereds of frothy polka-dot tulle, the bodice is finished at the centre with three bows crafted from thick black grosgrain ribbon. The bodice is boned and has a flattering sweetheart neckline, softened by the polka-dot tulle. The full, cocooning skirt is crafted from a thick silk twill and tailored to a straight silhouette. A single soft pleat falls from under a floppy silk twill bow that sits atop the left hip, mirrored by another single pleat at the rear of the dress. Inside, this gown is fully lined with black cotton. It fastens under the left arm with a concealed black zip.
This highly collectable dress is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws. The composition label states that this gown is 100% Silk. It is marked a vintage French 42 which we now equate to a modern day size US 6 or UK 10, but vintage sizes can vary hugely with today’s sizes so please check the measurements below closely. The fabric has no stretch.
