Description

Dating back to the 1940s, this is an excellent example of a hostess dress from the era. With 80 years of age behind it, the wonderful cold rayon fabric is as vibrant as the day it was made. The flamboyant paisley print features lilac, tangerine and yellow with minute detailing in black - a print made for a summer event. Unusual details have been added in black cloth - note the gathered bow-like forms at the shoulders and single pocket at the hip trimmed with black. The maxi-skirt has a graceful waterfall hem. This gown would have been worn for hosting, with the wrap-around cut, cropped sleeves and fluid silhouette allowing ease of movement. Three glossy black faceted glass buttons close the asymmetric fastening at the front, forming a V-neckline.

This piece is unlabelled but expertly made, most likely in America. In excellent vintage condition with no issues. There are side belt loops but you would need to add your own belt as this has separated from the dress with the passage of time. A good fit for around a UK 12 or US 8.
