Horrockses was born in the mid 1940s and produced mostly cotton garments which were designed in London and made in cotton designed and produced by the Horrockses mill in Preston. They were famous throughout the UK and the US for their well made classic 1950s floral printed summer dresses with full skirts and were successful in improving the image of cotton across the upscale stores they were sold in. They continued to produce sought after dresses until the end of the 50s when their top designers left. The company was then sold on in 1964 and eventually discontinued in 1984.
