Description

This exceptional 1980s Gucci teal silk shirt is from the Gucci family’s heyday of running the Italian fashion super brand. Tailored from jacquard silk, it is woven with a pattern of horse bits and lead rope - harking back to Guccio Gucci’s fascination with equestrian-wear in the brand’s early days. Today, the horse bit is synonymous with the label. This theatrical shirt is generously tailored to a blouson, voluminous fit and is box pleated all-over. It has a high Mandarin collar with two mother-of-pearl buttons engraved with the Gucci double-G logo. There are matching buttons down the front, hidden under the placket. The cuffs of the bell-sleeves are secured with a single, engraved pearlescent button. The original label dates this piece to the very late 1970s and early 1980s and reads “G. Gucci”, alongside the original Gucci crest - a wonderful addition to the wardrobe of collectors of early Gucci. The shirt is unlined.

This highly wearable shirt is in flawless archival vintage condition - we can see no faults and it looks barely worn. The fabric is 100% Silk. The size on the label states that this is an Italian size 42, which is a UK size 10 or US 6, but please double-check the measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We think it can be worn by a variety of sizes up to a UK 12 or US 8 and will look over-sized on smaller sizes.
