Description

This late 1950s to early 1960s dress and jacket set was designed for Nathan-Strong by August. The fabric is stunning and is tailored from a vibrant red-orange shot silk. The dress is tailored to a sheath style with a nipped-in waist and straight skirt with soft pleats at the waist. It is detailed with ruched orange silk chiffon across the bodice and back and fastens with a hidden zip and hook-and-eye clasp at the rear. The jacket is tailored from matching fabric and cut to a playful boxy cropped fit, it hints at the dress underneath. It has wide, three-quarter length sleeves and fastens at the front with four large fabric-covered buttons. The collar is rounded and short, adding to the gamine feel. Both the dress and the jacket are fully lined in coordinating silk.

This ensemble is in very good vintage condition with the fabric very vibrant. Whilst the dress is almost perfect, we noted just one or two very minor pulls to the silk chiffon at the rear; there is a small darned hole to the rear of the jacket collar. The suit retains the ILGWU union label which dates the ensemble to the period 1955 to 1963. It has no size or composition label so please check the measurements below carefully as the fabric has no stretch. Would best fit around a size UK 6 or US 2 on account of the small waist measurement.
