1990s Antony Price Couture Blackened Bronze Ruched Velvet Dress
Description
This spotlight-stealing gown was designed by Antony Price during the 1990s. Price became known for his image-making, collaborating on outlandish, seductive designs with the most famous musicians of the 20th century, including David Bowie, Duran Duran and Roxy Music. He went on to dress Anjelica Huston, Jerry Hall, Yasmin Le Bon, Diana Ross and Dita Von Teese. The fashion journalist and AnOther’s Magazine Editor, Alexander Fury, aptly noted “an unparalleled master of modern made-to-measure occasion wear and the most criminally overlooked designer in British fashion.”
This decadent evening gown showcases Price’s fabric-draping genius and the body and asymmetric hemline falls as though modelled on an ancient Greek Goddess statue. Cut to an off-shoulder neckline with a curve-hugging body, the silhouette recalls the glamorous styles of old '30s Hollywood. The fabric is luscious; a glimmering blackened bronze velvet which glimmers gold as it moves with the wearer. The top is corseted the whole way round and the bust has removable pads allowing for an optional push-up cleavage. The slit of the skirt is revealed by the draped layers as the wearer walks. The top half of the dress is lined in black satin. The off-shoulder neckline is secured with hook-and-eye clasps and fastens with a hidden tonal zip at the back. The original label is in place with its ochre-yellow “Antony Price” font on a charcoal-grey background.
From the archive of a fashion model, this stunning gown was made as a bespoke order for a special private event during the late 1990s. In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note and was worn just once. There are no composition or size labels so please check our measurements below carefully - the cloth has no stretch. We estimate the dress will fit sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6.
